On Monday, October 27, 2008, the Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee will consider NJAR®-supported legislation amending the current state fire extinguisher law. The legislation, A1027 - Wisniewski (D19), rescinds the requirement that all single and two-family residences be equipped with fire extinguishers at the time of sale. The bill permits municipalities to enact their own local ordinances. NJAR® successfully secured an amendment requiring municipalities to notify the Division of Fire Safety in the Department of Community Affairs if they adopt an ordinance. This information will be compiled into an accessible database. The bill was approved by the General Assembly on March 3, 2008.
